तस्मै स होवाच ।
यथा गार्ग्य मरीचयोऽर्कस्यास् तं गच्छतः सर्वा एतस्मिंस् तेजोमण्डल एकीभवन्ति ।
ताः पुनः पुनर् उदयतः प्रचरन्ति ।
एवं ह वै तत् सर्वं परे देवे मनस्य् एकीभवति ।
तेन तर्ह्य् एष पुरुषो न शृणोति ।
न पश्यति ।
न जिघ्रति ।
न रसयते ।
न स्पृशते ।
नाभिवदते ।
नादत्ते ।
नानन्दयते ।
न विसृजते ।
नेयायते ।
स्वपतीत्य् आचक्षते

yathā gārgya marīcayo'rkasyās taṃ gacchataḥ sarvā etasmiṃs tejomaṇḍala ekībhavanti |

एकीभवन्तिekībhavantibecome one (ekī-√bhū); they become one; they merge
ताः पुनःtāḥ punaḥthey again; those same once more
पुनर् उदयतःpunar udayataḥat its rising again; when it rises anew
प्रचरन्तिpracarantithey spread abroad; they move outward
एवम् ह वैevam ha vaithus indeed; just so
तत् सर्वम्tat sarvamall this; all this entirely
परे देवेpare devein the supreme god [of that orb]; in the sovereign [inner] deva; in the highest power
मनसिmanasiin the mind (manas); in the manas; in the inner sense
एकीभवतिekībhavatibecomes one; is gathered in
तेन तर्हिtena tarhitherefore at that time; because of this, at that time
एषः पुरुषःeṣaḥ puruṣaḥthis man; this person
न शृणोतिna śṛṇotidoes not hear; takes in nothing by hearing
न पश्यतिna paśyatidoes not see; does not look
न जिघ्रतिna jighratidoes not smell; perceives no scent
न रसयतेna rasayatedoes not taste; distinguishes no flavour
न स्पृशतेna spṛśatedoes not touch; feels no contact
न अभिवदतेna abhivadatedoes not speak; utters nothing
न आदत्तेna ādattedoes not take; does not receive
न आनन्दयतेna ānandayatedoes not enjoy; feels no pleasure
न विसृजतेna visṛjatedoes not excrete; releases nothing
न इयायतेna iyāyatedoes not move; does not walk
स्वपति इतिsvapati iti'he sleeps' (svapiti); he reposes; he has fallen asleep
आचक्षतेācakṣatethey say; they explain
Traducción

He answered: "As, O Gārgya, the rays of the setting sun all become one in the orb of light, and spread out again at its rising — so all this becomes one in the supreme god, the mind. Therefore a man then does not hear, does not see, does not smell, does not taste, does not touch, does not speak, does not take, does not enjoy, does not excrete, does not move. They say: 'he sleeps.'"
