Offering food
How to cook and offer food to Kṛṣṇa so that it becomes prasādam: kitchen rules, the order of the offering and the prayers, each said three times.
यह मार्गदर्शिका अभी आपकी भाषा में अनूदित नहीं है — नीचे यह English में दिखाई गई है।
Prasādam means “mercy”: food offered to Kṛṣṇa and accepted by Him. Śrīla Prabhupāda taught to eat only prasādam. Food can be offered at home too, before an altar with pictures.
Cooking
- Vegetarian food only: no meat, fish or eggs, and no onion, garlic or mushrooms.
- Cook in cleanliness, after bathing, with Kṛṣṇa in mind.
- Do not taste before the offering — Kṛṣṇa tastes the food first.
- Keep a separate plate and dishes for the offering and use them for nothing else.
The plate
Put a little of every dish on a separate plate and add a glass of water. Place the plate before the altar.
Prayers
Ring the bell and say the prayers — each three times:
- The praṇāma to Śrīla Prabhupāda — we offer through the spiritual master.
- The praṇāma to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
- The prayer to Kṛṣṇa.

Obeisance to the God whom the brāhmaṇas worship, who brings good to the cows and the brāhmaṇas and good to the whole world — to Kṛṣṇa, to Govinda, obeisance and obeisance again!
Waiting
Leave the plate for a few minutes. Meanwhile chant the mahā-mantra or sing Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura's “Bhoga-ārati”.

Prasādam
Bow down, take the plate and return its contents to the pots — now all of it is prasādam. Wash the offering plate separately. Prasādam is eaten with gratitude, wasting nothing.
