The account of Janamejaya's rule and marriage presents an ideal of righteous kingship and marital fidelity. Here is a lesson that mastery of the senses and faithfulness are virtues becoming even to a householder, and that contentment with one lawful wife is a mark of nobility. The comparison with Pururavas and Urvashi, however, carries a subtle undertone: all worldly happiness, however beautiful, is fleeting (just as Pururavas and Urvashi were later parted). Thus, behind the idyll of the marriage lies a reminder of the transience of earthly joys. But for now there is peace and contentment; the storm of vengeance for the father still lies ahead.
