देवनागरी
ते बलेन वयं राजन् महता चतुरङ्गिणा ॥
प्रमथ्य द्रुपदं शीघ्रम् आनयामेह पाण्डवान् ॥
न हि साम्ना न दानेन न भेदेन च पाण्डवाः ॥
शक्याः साधयितुं तस्माद् विक्रमेणैव ताञ् जहि ॥

अनुवाद
"Thus we, O king, with a great fourfold army, having swiftly crushed Drupada, will bring the Pandavas here; for neither by conciliation, nor by gift, nor by discord can the Pandavas be overcome; therefore strike them down by valor alone."

Here the three means are weighed and rejected, and only force remains. It is telling that Karna, having ruled out conciliation, gift, and discord, calls for the rod of force — but against the innocent. Here the truth appears: even the last of the means, turned against justice, is violence, not justice itself. Thus the scripture reveals the counsel of open war against kinsmen; and behind soldierly directness lies an unjust undertaking.
