ततो देवाभवन् भीता उग्रं दृष्ट्वा तयोस् तपः ॥
तपोविघातार्थम् अथो देवा विघ्नानि चक्रिरे ॥
रत्नैः प्रलोभयाम् आसुः स्त्रीभिश् चोभौ पुनः पुनः ॥
न च तौ चक्रतुर् भङ्गं व्रतस्य सुमहाव्रतौ ॥

Here even asuras withstood the temptation of gold and women. It is telling that the brothers did not yield to temptation: firmness in a vow is a virtue in itself, even in the unrighteous. Here it is revealed that steadfastness before temptation is praiseworthy, yet without dharma it too serves a bad end. Thus the scripture shows their unshakeable resolve; and their perseverance, alas, is directed toward the conquest of the worlds.
