इदं वै सद्म तिग्मांशो वरुणस्य परायणम् ॥
शिवस् त्राता भवास्माकं मास्मान् अद्य विनाशय ॥
पिङ्गाक्ष लोहितग्रीव कृष्णवर्त्मन् हुताशन ॥
परेण प्रैहि मुञ्चास्मान् सागरस्य गृहान् इव ॥

अनुवाद

Here praise ends in a direct plea for mercy. The petition is significant: "be our gracious savior, do not destroy us" -- having praised the god, the devotee humbly asks for grace. Praise and the plea for refuge go together. Thus scripture reveals the close of the hymn -- and Agni, moved, will answer with mercy.
