भवनैः सविमानाग्रैः सोदर्कैर् बलसंवृतैः ॥
लोकराजविमानैश् च ब्राह्मणावसथैः सह ॥
कृतैर् आवसथैर् दिव्यैर् विमानप्रतिमैस् तथा ॥
विचित्रै रत्नवद्भिश् च ऋद्ध्या परमया युतैः ॥
राजभिश् च समावृत्तैर् अतीवश्रीसमृद्धिभिः ॥
अशोभत सदो राजन् कौन्तेयस्य महात्मनः ॥
bhavanaiḥ savimānāgraiḥ sodarkair balasaṃvṛtaiḥ ||
lokarājavimānaiś ca brāhmaṇāvasathaiḥ saha ||
kṛtair āvasathair divyair vimānapratimais tathā ||
vicitrai ratnavadbhiś ca ṛddhyā paramayā yutaiḥ ||
rājabhiś ca samāvṛttair atīvaśrīsamṛddhibhiḥ ||
aśobhata sado rājan kaunteyasya mahātmanaḥ ||
With mansions crowned with towers and galleries surrounded by guards, with the palaces of the kings of the world and the dwellings of brahmins, with wondrous abodes built to resemble celestial palaces, variegated and bejeweled, endowed with the highest opulence, and with the gathered kings full of splendor — the assembly of the great-souled Kaunteya shone, O king.

Once more the narrator delights in splendor — but at its center stands not wealth but "the great-souled Kaunteya": all the radiance converges upon him. It is telling that the brilliance of the assembly is the reflected brilliance of the righteous man at its center; it is not the gold that adorns Yudhishthira, but Yudhishthira who gives the gold its meaning. The verse teaches that outward magnificence has worth only as a halo around one who is worthy; remove the righteous man from the center, and the luxury becomes empty. The true source of radiance is virtue at the core, and the splendor around it merely bears witness to it.
