विप्लुता चास्य भद्रं ते बुद्धिर् बुद्धिमतां वर ॥
चेदिराजस्य कौन्तेय सर्वेषां च महीक्षिताम् ॥
आदातुं हि नरव्याघ्रो यं यम् इच्छत्य् अयं यदा ॥
तस्य विप्लवते बुद्धिर् एवं चेदिपतेर् यथा ॥
चतुर्विधानां भूतानां त्रिषु लोकेषु माधवः ॥
प्रभवश् चैव सर्वेषां निधनं च युधिष्ठिर ॥
viplutā cāsya bhadraṃ te buddhir buddhimatāṃ vara ||
cedirājasya kaunteya sarveṣāṃ ca mahīkṣitām ||
ādātuṃ hi naravyāghro yaṃ yam icchaty ayaṃ yadā ||
tasya viplavate buddhir evaṃ cedipater yathā ||
caturvidhānāṃ bhūtānāṃ triṣu lokeṣu mādhavaḥ ||
prabhavaś caiva sarveṣāṃ nidhanaṃ ca yudhiṣṭhira ||
"And clouded, — blessings upon you, O best of the wise, — is the understanding of the king of the Chedis, O Kaunteya, and of all these lords of the earth. For whomever this tiger among men wishes to take, that one's understanding is clouded — just as it is with the lord of the Chedis. Madhava is both the source and the end of all fourfold beings in the three worlds, O Yudhishthira."

Deep is the truth: 'whomever the tiger among men wishes to take, that one's understanding is clouded.' It is significant that the clouding of reason precedes destruction as its herald: one deprived of the Lord's support first loses his sound judgment. This is not arbitrary but righteous judgment — the withdrawal of light from one who has rejected the light. And the speech is crowned by the proclamation: Madhava is 'both the source and the end of all' — in His hand lies both the beginning and the end of every being. The verse teaches that life and death, reason and its clouding, are all within the will of the Lord; and whoever opposes Him, without knowing it, moves toward an end measured out by the very One from whom his own existence comes.
