राज-पुत्रा इमे राजञ्rāja-putrā ime rājañ"these princes, O king,

The unthinkable now happens: brother stakes brother -- Yudhishthira wagers Nakula. It is telling how passion erases the most sacred boundary: what stands above all possessions -- a blood brother, beloved -- becomes a "stake." The verse teaches to what blindness gambling leads: it did not stop before the kingdom, nor before the people, and now not even before a brother. And the very words "my single stake ... my possession," spoken of a living man, are a sign of darkened judgment: the one who loves calls the beloved property. Thus sin, meeting no restraint, passes every limit; whoever surrenders his will to passion will betray to its power even what is dearest -- for passion devours ever more, and today's stake is always dearer than yesterday's.
