प्रकीर्णकेशी पतितार्धवस्त्रा; दुःशासनेन व्यवधूयमाना ॥
ह्रीमत्य् अमर्षेण च दह्यमाना; शनैर् इदं वाक्यम् उवाच कृष्णा ॥
इमे सभायाम् उपदिष्टशास्त्राः; क्रियावन्तः सर्व एवेन्द्रकल्पाः ॥
गुरुस्थाना गुरवश् चैव सर्वे; तेषाम् अग्रे नोत्सहे स्थातुम् एवम् ॥
नृशंसकर्मंस् त्वम् अनार्यवृत्त; मा मां विवस्त्रां कृधि मा विकार्षीः ॥
न मर्षयेयुस् तव राजपुत्राः; सेन्द्रापि देवा यदि ते सहायाः ॥

प्रकीर्ण-केशी पतित-अर्ध-वस्त्राprakīrṇa-keśī patita-ardha-vastrāwith her hair disheveled, her garment fallen half away,
दुःशासनेन व्यवधूयमानाduḥśāsanena vyavadhūyamānāroughly shaken by Duhshasana,
ह्रीमत्य् अमर्षेण च दह्यमानाhrīmaty amarṣeṇa ca dahyamānāashamed, and burning with indignation,
शनैर् इदं वाक्यम् उवाच कृष्णाśanair idaṃ vākyam uvāca kṛṣṇāKrishna quietly spoke this word:
इमे सभायाम् उपदिष्ट-शास्त्राःime sabhāyām upadiṣṭa-śāstrāḥ"these men in the assembly are learned in the shastras,
क्रियावन्तः सर्व एव इन्द्र-कल्पाःkriyāvantaḥ sarva eva indra-kalpāḥperformers of rites, all equal to Indra;
गुरु-स्थाना गुरवश् च एव सर्वेguru-sthānā guravaś ca eva sarve[some] stand in the place of gurus, and all are themselves gurus;
तेषाम् अग्रे न उत्सहे स्थातुम् एवम्teṣām agre na utsahe sthātum evambefore them I dare not stand thus;
नृशंस-कर्मंस् त्वम् अनार्य-वृत्तnṛśaṃsa-karmaṃs tvam anārya-vṛttacruel of deed, ignoble in conduct,
मा मां विवस्त्रां कृधि मा विकार्षीःmā māṃ vivastrāṃ kṛdhi mā vikārṣīḥdo not strip me bare, do not drag me;
न मर्षयेयुस् तव राज-पुत्राःna marṣayeyus tava rāja-putrāḥyour [Pandava] princes would not endure that,
सेन्द्रा अपि देवा यदि ते सहायाःsendrā api devā yadi te sahāyāḥeven if the gods with Indra were your helpers."

अनुवाद

With her hair disheveled, her garment fallen half away, roughly shaken by Duhshasana, ashamed and burning with indignation, Krishna quietly spoke this word: "These men in the assembly are learned in the shastras, performers of rites, all equal to Indra; some stand in the place of gurus, and all are themselves gurus; before them I dare not stand thus. Cruel of deed, ignoble in conduct, do not strip me bare, do not drag me; your [Pandava] princes would not endure this, even if the gods with Indra were your helpers."
