नमः धात्रे विधात्रे च यौ मोहम् चक्रतुः तव पितृपैतामहे वृत्ते वोढव्ये ते अन्यथा मतिःnamaḥ dhātre vidhātre ca yau moham cakratuḥ tava pitṛpaitāmahe vṛtte voḍhavye te anyathā matiḥhomage to Dhatri and Vidhatri, who wrought this delusion in you: when the path of fathers and forefathers must be borne, your mind is otherwise
न इह धर्मानृशंस्याभ्याम् न क्षान्त्या न आर्जवेन च पुरुषः श्रियम् आप्नोति न घृणित्वेन कर्हि चित्na iha dharmānṛśaṃsyābhyām na kṣāntyā na ārjavena ca puruṣaḥ śriyam āpnoti na ghṛṇitvena karhi cithere a man does not attain prosperity by dharma alone, by non-cruelty, patience, honesty, or compassion
त्वाम् चेत् व्यसनम् अभ्यागात् इदम् भारत दुःसहम् यत् त्वम् न अर्हसि न अपि इमे भ्रातरः ते महौजसःtvām cet vyasanam abhyāgāt idam bhārata duḥsaham yat tvam na arhasi na api ime bhrātaraḥ te mahaujasaḥif this unbearable calamity has come upon you, O Bharata, which neither you nor these mighty brothers of yours deserve
न हि ते अध्यगमत् जातु तदानीम् न अद्य भारत धर्मात् प्रियतरम् किं चित् अपि चेत् जीवितात् इहna hi te adhyagamat jātu tadānīm na adya bhārata dharmāt priyataram kiṃ cit api cet jīvitāt ihafor then, as now, O Bharata, nothing has ever been dearer to you than dharma, not even life
धर्मार्थम् एव ते राज्यम् धर्मार्थम् जीवितम् च ते ब्राह्मणाः गुरवः च एव जानन्ति अपि च देवताःdharmārtham eva te rājyam dharmārtham jīvitam ca te brāhmaṇāḥ guravaḥ ca eva jānanti api ca devatāḥyour kingdom exists for the sake of dharma, and your life is for the sake of dharma; this the brahmins, the teachers, and the gods know
