देवनागरी

पूरयस्व महाबाहो समुद्रं लोकभावन ॥
यत् त्वया सलिलं पीतं तद् अस्मिन् पुनर् उत्सृज ॥
एवम् उक्तः प्रत्युवाच भगवान् मुनिपुंगवः ॥
जीर्णं तद् धि मया तोयम् उपायो ऽन्यः प्रचिन्त्यताम् ॥
पूरणार्थं समुद्रस्य भवद्भिर् यत्नम् आस्थितैः ॥
एतच् छ्रुत्वा तु वचनं महर्षेर् भावितात्मनः ॥
विस्मिताश् च विषण्णाश् च बभूवुः सहिताः सुराः ॥
परस्परम् अनुज्ञाप्य प्रणम्य मुनिपुंगवम् ॥
प्रजाः सर्वा महाराज विप्रजग्मुर् यथागतम् ॥
त्रिदशा विष्णुना सार्धम् उपजग्मुः पितामहम् ॥
पूरणार्थं समुद्रस्य मन्त्रयित्वा पुनः पुनः ॥
ऊचुः प्राञ्जलयः सर्वे सागरस्याभिपूरणम् ॥

अनुवाद

They said: "Fill the ocean, mighty-armed benefactor of the worlds. The water you drank, pour it back into it once more." Thus addressed, the blessed best of sages replied: "That water has already been digested by me. You must exert yourselves and devise another way to fill the ocean." Hearing the words of the enlightened maharishi, the gods were both astonished and dismayed. Taking leave of one another and bowing to the best of sages, all the beings, great king, departed as they had come. Then the thirty gods, together with Vishnu, went to Pitamaha and, deliberating again and again on how to fill the ocean, all with joined palms spoke of how to fill the sea.

भाष्य

Even a miraculous solution can open a new task. The lila moves on: the drained ocean awaits the Ganga, and the resolution of one calamity becomes the beginning of another great descent.
