'He is always patient, even when provoked by a lesser man; he grants peace and freedom from fear to one who has taken the straight path. But for one who acts crookedly and seeks to kill through deceit, he becomes like the poison of Time, even if it is the wielder of the vajra himself standing before him. Bibhatsu is magnanimous, mighty, and grants freedom from fear even to an enemy who has come for refuge. He is the support of us all, the crusher of enemies in battle, the gatherer of all jewels, and the source of happiness for all of us. By his strength, hero, I once had many divine jewels of many kinds, which Suyodhana has now obtained. By the strength of his arms, Pandava, I once had an assembly hall made of every jewel, famed in the three worlds. I do not see Phalguna, equal to Vasudeva in valor, equal to Kartavirya in battle, invincible, unconquered in war. He, the slayer of enemies, was born equal in strength to the mighty Sankarshana, to you, unconquered Bhima, and to Vasudeva. In strength of arms and in majesty he equals Purandara, in swiftness the Wind, in countenance Soma, in wrath eternal Death.'

Arjuna is described as strength joined to protection. His fearsomeness is turned not against the weak but against deceit and violence; this is why remembering him sustains his brothers.
