प्रवेक्ष्यामो महाबाहो पर्वतं गन्धमादनम् ॥
विशाला बदरी यत्र नरनारायणाश्रमः ॥
तं सदाध्युषितं यक्षैर् द्रक्ष्यामो गिरिम् उत्तमम् ॥
कुबेरनलिनीं रम्यां राक्षसैर् अभिरक्षिताम् ॥
पद्भिर् एव गमिष्यामस् तप्यमाना महत् तपः ॥
नातप्ततपसा शक्यो देशो गन्तुं वृकोदर ॥
न नृशंसेन लुब्धेन नाप्रशान्तेन भारत ॥
तत्र सर्वे गमिष्यामो भीमार्जुनपदैषिणः ॥
सायुधा बद्धनिस्त्रिंशाः सह विप्रैर् महाव्रतैः ॥
मक्षिकान् मशकान् दंशान् व्याघ्रान् सिंहान् सरीसृपान् ॥
प्राप्नोत्य् अनियतः पार्थ नियतस् तान् न पश्यति ॥
ते वयं नियतात्मानः पर्वतं गन्धमादनम् ॥
प्रवेक्ष्यामो मिताहारा धनंजयदिदृक्षवः ॥

makṣikān maśakān daṃśān vyāghrān siṃhān sarīsṛpān ||
prāpnoty aniyataḥ pārtha niyatas tān na paśyati ||
te vayaṃ niyatātmānaḥ parvataṃ gandhamādanam ||
pravekṣyāmo mitāhārā dhanaṃjayadidṛkṣavaḥ ||

अनुवाद

'All of us, hero, wish to see that tiger among men. Mighty-armed one, we shall ascend Mount Gandhamadana. There is Vishala Badari, the hermitage of Nara-Narayana; we shall see this finest of mountains, ever inhabited by yakshas. To the beautiful lotus lake of Kubera, guarded by rakshasas, we shall go on foot, performing great austerity. This place, Vrikodara, cannot be reached by one who has not practiced austerity; it is inaccessible to the cruel, the greedy, and the unquiet, O Bharata. There we shall all go, seeking the tracks of Bhima and Arjuna, armed, our swords bound at our sides, together with brahmins of great vows. The unrestrained man, Partha, encounters flies, mosquitoes, gadflies, tigers, lions, and reptiles; the restrained man does not see them. Therefore we, having restrained ourselves, eating sparingly and longing to see Dhananjaya, shall ascend Mount Gandhamadana.'
