देवनागरी

लक्षयित्वा तु मां भीतम् इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
अर्जुनार्जुन मा भैस् त्वं वज्रम् अस्त्रम् उदीरय ॥
ततो ऽहं तस्य तद् वाक्यं श्रुत्वा वज्रम् उदीरयम् ॥
देवराजस्य दयितं वज्रम् अस्त्रं नराधिप ॥
अचलं स्थानम् आसाद्य गाण्डीवम् अनुमन्त्र्य च ॥
अमुञ्चं वज्रसंस्पर्शान् आयसान् निशिताञ् शरान् ॥
ततो मायाश् च ताः सर्वा निवातकवचांश् च तान् ॥
ते वज्रचोदिता बाणा वज्रभूताः समाविशन् ॥
ते वज्रवेगाभिहता दानवाः पर्वतोपमाः ॥
इतरेतरम् आश्लिष्य न्यपतन् पृथिवीतले ॥
अन्तर्भूमौ तु ये ऽगृह्णन् दानवा रथवाजिनः ॥
अनुप्रविश्य तान् बाणाः प्राहिण्वन् यमसादनम् ॥
हतैर् निवातकवचैर् निरस्तैः पर्वतोपमैः ॥
समाच्छाद्यत देशः स विकीर्णैर् इव पर्वतैः ॥
न हयानां क्षतिः का चिन् न रथस्य न मातलेः ॥
मम चादृश्यत तदा तद् अद्भुतम् इवाभवत् ॥

samācchādyata deśaḥ sa vikīrṇair iva parvataiḥ ||
na hayānāṃ kṣatiḥ kā cin na rathasya na mātaleḥ ||
mama cādṛśyata tadā tad adbhutam ivābhavat ||

अनुवाद

Mātali said: 'Arjuna, Arjuna, do not be afraid. Loose the vajra weapon.' Arjuna said: 'Hearing his word, I loosed the weapon dear to the king of gods — the vajra astra. Taking a firm stance and consecrating the Gāṇḍīva, I released iron, sharp arrows that felt like the touch of the vajra. These arrows, driven by the vajra and become the vajra themselves, entered all those māyās and the Nivātakavacas themselves. The dānavas, like mountains, struck by the speed of the vajra, fell to the ground embracing one another. And those who held the chariot's horses underground, the arrows overtook, piercing down to them, and sent to the abode of Yama. That place was covered with slain Nivātakavacas, cast down and like mountains, as if scattered peaks. But then no damage at all was seen — not to the horses, not to the chariot, not to Mātali, not to me. It seemed a wonder.'

भाष्य

The decisive cue comes from Mātali. Even Arjuna with the Gāṇḍīva accepts guidance at the moment of danger, and so Indra's power acts without harm to his chariot.
