Seized by the hair, Kichaka, best among the strong, tore his hair free by force and seized the Pandava by the arms. A hand-to-hand struggle began between the two enraged lions among men, like the fight in spring between two mighty elephants over a female. Faltering slightly, yet standing firm in his rage, the strong Kichaka threw Bhima to the ground with his knees. Bhima, thrown down by the strong Kichaka, sprang up at once, swift as a serpent struck by a rod. Rivaling each other and maddened with strength, both mighty ones -- the son of a suta and the Pandava -- dragged one another about in that empty place through the night. Then the finest of houses shook again and again, and both, mighty and enraged, roared at one another. The strong Kichaka, struck by Bhima's palms upon the chest and scorched by wrath, did not move a single step. But having borne this unbearable onslaught on the ground for only a moment, the son of a suta began to lose his strength, worn out by Bhima's power. Perceiving that he was weakening, the mighty Bhimasena swiftly drew him to his chest and crushed him, robbing him of consciousness. Overcome with rage, Vrikodara drew a heavy breath once more and then seized him firmly by the hair again, he the best of victors. Having seized Kichaka, the mighty Bhima roared like a tiger craving flesh that has caught a great beast. His feet, hands, head, and neck he drew wholly into the body, as Pinakadhrit does with a sacrificial animal. Having made him a mass of pounded limbs, resembling a lump of flesh, the mighty Bhimasena showed him to Krishna.

The punishment of Kichaka is described in almost cosmic terms: the body that served violence loses its very form. Adharma, carried to its conclusion, disintegrates.
