Uttara said: "Mounting this broad chariot, hero, with me as your charioteer, to which army will you go? Wherever you tell me, there I shall go." Arjuna said: "I am pleased, tiger among men; there is no fear for you. I shall drive off all your enemies in battle, O master of combat. Be at ease in mind, O wise one, and watch how I fight the enemy in this crush of battle and perform a great and terrible deed. Quickly bind all these quivers to my chariot, and bring me this sword, adorned with pure gold. I shall fight the Kurus and bring back your cows. Under the guard of my chariot's platform you shall have a city: its wings are the resolve of thought, its walls and gates are my arms, its narrow lanes are the three staves of the quivers, it is filled with many banners, the twang of its bowstring is born of wrath, and the rumble of its wheels is its drum. The chariot on which I stand in battle, wielding the Gandiva, is invincible before the armies of the enemy, O son of Virata; let your fear depart."

Arjuna turns the chariot into an image of a fortified city. Uttara's fear no longer needs to look for walls outside: protection is now wherever a warrior faithful to his duty stands.
