Vaishampayana said: "Having conquered the Kurus in battle, the hero with eyes like a bull restored Virata's great wealth. When the sons of Dhritarashtra had been routed and scattered in every direction, many Kuru warriors emerged from the dense forest. Their hearts shaken with fear, they gathered from every side, hair disheveled, and stood with joined palms. Worn out by hunger, thirst, and exhaustion, bereft of any refuge, like men in a foreign land, they bowed in confusion and said: 'Partha, what shall we do for you?'"

After the great victory, Arjuna no longer meets enemies but frightened men. Here again it is not his strength that is tested, but the heart of the victor.
