विराट उवाच
क्व स वीरो महाबाहुर् देवपुत्रो महायशाः ॥
यो मे धनम् अवाजैषीत् कुरुभिर् ग्रस्तम् आहवे ॥
इच्छामि तम् अहं द्रष्टुम् अर्चितुं च महाबलम् ॥
येन मे त्वं च गावश् च रक्षिता देवसूनुना ॥
उत्तर उवाच
अन्तर्धानं गतस् तात देवपुत्रः प्रतापवान् ॥
स तु श्वो वा परश्वो वा मन्ये प्रादुर्भविष्यति ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् आख्यायमानं तु छन्नं सत्रेण पाण्डवम् ॥
वसन्तं तत्र नाज्ञासीद् विराटः पार्थम् अर्जुनम् ॥
ततः पार्थो ऽभ्यनुज्ञातो विराटेन महात्मना ॥
प्रददौ तानि वासांसि विराटदुहितुः स्वयम् ॥
उत्तरा तु महार्हाणि विविधानि तनूनि च ॥
प्रतिगृह्याभवत् प्रीता तानि वासांसि भामिनी ॥
मन्त्रयित्वा तु कौन्तेय उत्तरेण रहस् तदा ॥
इतिकर्तव्यतां सर्वां राजन्य् अथ युधिष्ठिरे ॥
ततस् तथा तद् व्यदधाद् यथावत् पुरुषर्षभ ॥
सह पुत्रेण मत्स्यस्य प्रहृष्टो भरतर्षभः ॥

yo me dhanam avājaiṣīt kurubhir grastam āhave ||
icchāmi tam ahaṃ draṣṭum arcituṃ ca mahābalam ||
yena me tvaṃ ca gāvaś ca rakṣitā devasūnunā ||
uttara uvāca
antardhānaṃ gatas tāta devaputraḥ pratāpavān ||
sa tu śvo vā paraśvo vā manye prādurbhaviṣyati ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
evam ākhyāyamānaṃ tu channaṃ satreṇa pāṇḍavam ||
vasantaṃ tatra nājñāsīd virāṭaḥ pārtham arjunam ||
tataḥ pārtho 'bhyanujñāto virāṭena mahātmanā ||
pradadau tāni vāsāṃsi virāṭaduhituḥ svayam ||
uttarā tu mahārhāṇi vividhāni tanūni ca ||
pratigṛhyābhavat prītā tāni vāsāṃsi bhāminī ||
mantrayitvā tu kaunteya uttareṇa rahas tadā ||
itikartavyatāṃ sarvāṃ rājany atha yudhiṣṭhire ||
tatas tathā tad vyadadhād yathāvat puruṣarṣabha ||
saha putreṇa matsyasya prahṛṣṭo bharatarṣabhaḥ ||
Virata said: 'Where is that hero, mighty-armed and of great renown, the son of a god, who won back my wealth seized by the Kurus in battle? I wish to see and honor that mighty one, by whom you and my cows were protected, O son of a god.' Uttara said: 'Father, the powerful son of a god has vanished from sight. I think he will appear tomorrow or the day after.' Thus Virata did not recognize Partha Arjuna, the Pandava, concealed by his vow and living there. Then Partha, having received permission from the noble Virata, himself gave those garments to Virata's daughter. Uttara, receiving those costly and varied fine garments, was delighted with them. Kaunteya, having consulted with Uttara in secret, then arranged everything that needed to be done concerning the king and Yudhishthira; and so the bull among men, together with the son of the king of Matsya, joyfully set all things in proper order.'
