बहुविघ्नकरः कालः कालः कालं नयिष्यति ॥
दर्पितो बलवांश् चापि नहुषो वरसंश्रयात् ॥
शल्य उवाच
ततस् तेन तथोक्ते तु प्रीता देवास् तम् अब्रुवन् ॥
ब्रह्मन् साध्व् इदम् उक्तं ते हितं सर्वदिवौकसाम् ॥
एवम् एतद् द्विजश्रेष्ठ देवी चेयं प्रसाद्यताम् ॥
ततः समस्ता इन्द्राणीं देवाः साग्निपुरोगमाः ॥
ऊचुर् वचनम् अव्यग्रा लोकानां हितकाम्यया ॥
त्वया जगद् इदं सर्वं धृतं स्थावरजङ्गमम् ॥
एकपत्न्य् असि सत्या च गच्छस्व नहुषं प्रति ॥
क्षिप्रं त्वाम् अभिकामश् च विनशिष्यति पार्थिवः ॥
नहुषो देवि शक्रश् च सुरैश्वर्यम् अवाप्स्यति ॥

darpito balavāṃś cāpi nahuṣo varasaṃśrayāt ||
śalya uvāca
tatas tena tathokte tu prītā devās tam abruvan ||
brahman sādhv idam uktaṃ te hitaṃ sarvadivaukasām ||
evam etad dvijaśreṣṭha devī ceyaṃ prasādyatām ||
tataḥ samastā indrāṇīṃ devāḥ sāgnipurogamāḥ ||
ūcur vacanam avyagrā lokānāṃ hitakāmyayā ||
tvayā jagad idaṃ sarvaṃ dhṛtaṃ sthāvarajaṅgamam ||
ekapatny asi satyā ca gacchasva nahuṣaṃ prati ||
kṣipraṃ tvām abhikāmaś ca vinaśiṣyati pārthivaḥ ||
nahuṣo devi śakraś ca suraiśvaryam avāpsyati ||
'This will be for the good of the queen of Indra and for our own good as well. Time, O gods, may bring about many obstacles. Time carries time forward. Nahusha has grown proud and mighty through the boon granted to him!'" Shalya continued: "When Brihaspati had said this, the gladdened gods said: 'You have spoken well, O brahmana. This is for the good of all the gods. This is undoubtedly so. Only let this goddess be persuaded.' Then the assembled gods, with Agni at their head, calmly addressed the queen of Indra for the sake of the welfare of all the worlds. And the gods said: 'You sustain this entire universe, all that is moving and unmoving. You are faithful and true to one husband: go to Nahusha. This wicked being, consumed with desire for you, will soon perish; and Indra, O goddess, will regain the sovereignty of the gods!'"
