धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
यथैव पाण्डवाः सर्वे पराक्रान्ता जिगीषवः ॥
तथैवाभिसरास् तेषां त्यक्तात्मानो जये धृताः ॥
त्वम् एव हि पराक्रान्तान् आचक्षीथाः परान् मम ॥
पाञ्चालान् केकयान् मत्स्यान् मागधान् वत्सभूमिपान् ॥
यश् च सेन्द्रान् इमांल् लोकान् इच्छन् कुर्याद् वशे बली ॥
स श्रेष्ठो जगतः कृष्णः पाण्डवानां जये धृतः ॥
समस्ताम् अर्जुनाद् विद्यां सात्यकिः क्षिप्रम् आप्तवान् ॥
शैनेयः समरे स्थाता बीजवत् प्रवपञ् शरान् ॥
धृष्टद्युम्नश् च पाञ्चाल्यः क्रूरकर्मा महारथः ॥
मामकेषु रणं कर्ता बलेषु परमास्त्रवित् ॥
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca
yathaiva pāṇḍavāḥ sarve parākrāntā jigīṣavaḥ ||
tathaivābhisarās teṣāṃ tyaktātmāno jaye dhṛtāḥ ||
tvam eva hi parākrāntān ācakṣīthāḥ parān mama ||
pāñcālān kekayān matsyān māgadhān vatsabhūmipān ||
yaś ca sendrān imāṃl lokān icchan kuryād vaśe balī ||
sa śreṣṭho jagataḥ kṛṣṇaḥ pāṇḍavānāṃ jaye dhṛtaḥ ||
samastām arjunād vidyāṃ sātyakiḥ kṣipram āptavān ||
śaineyaḥ samare sthātā bījavat pravapañ śarān ||
dhṛṣṭadyumnaś ca pāñcālyaḥ krūrakarmā mahārathaḥ ||
māmakeṣu raṇaṃ kartā baleṣu paramāstravit ||
Dhritarashtra said: 'He from whom we have never heard a lie, he who has Dhananjaya to fight for him, may hold dominion even over the three worlds. Pondering it day after day, I find no warrior who could stand against the wielder of the Gandiva in battle upon his chariot. When that wielder of the Gandiva looses his winged arrows, his nalikas, and shafts able to pierce a warrior's breast, none can withstand him. If those bulls among men, those heroes — Drona and Karna, the foremost of the mighty, skilled in arms and unconquerable in battle — should stand against him, the outcome may be in doubt, but I am certain the victory will not be mine.'
