Before this comes to pass, let some good man go to Yudhishthira and entreat this son of Pandu, the best of men, to accept the kingdom offered him, without delay. There is no warrior on earth like Savyasachin, the valiant son of Pandu, whom none could daunt. The heavenly chariot of the wielder of the Gandiva is guarded by the gods themselves. He cannot be overcome by any man. Therefore do not set your hearts on war!

This passage, 5.57.26-29, develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort toward peace goes on even against the backdrop of an inevitable war. Key themes: the Pandavas, Sanjaya. Here dharma is revealed through speech, the choice of envoys, faithfulness to one's word, and the responsibility kings bear for the consequences of their decisions.
