श्रोतव्यम् अपि पश्यामि सुहृदां कुरुनन्दन ॥
न कर्तव्यश् च निर्बन्धो निर्बन्धो हि सुदारुणः ॥
अत्राप्य् उदाहरन्तीमम् इतिहासं पुरातनम् ॥
यथा निर्बन्धतः प्राप्तो गालवेन पराजयः ॥
विश्वामित्रं तपस्यन्तं धर्मो जिज्ञासया पुरा ॥
अभ्यगच्छत् स्वयं भूत्वा वसिष्ठो भगवान् ऋषिः ॥
सप्तर्षीणाम् अन्यतमं वेषम् आस्थाय भारत ॥
बुभुक्षुः क्षुधितो राजन्न् आश्रमं कौशिकस्य ह ॥
विश्वामित्रो ऽथ संभ्रान्तः श्रपयाम् आस वै चरुम् ॥
परमान्नस्य यत्नेन न च स प्रत्यपालयत् ॥

na kartavyaś ca nirbandho nirbandho hi sudāruṇaḥ ||
atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam ||

saptarṣīṇām anyatamaṃ veṣam āsthāya bhārata ||
bubhukṣuḥ kṣudhito rājann āśramaṃ kauśikasya ha ||
viśvāmitro 'tha saṃbhrāntaḥ śrapayām āsa vai carum ||
paramānnasya yatnena na ca sa pratyapālayat ||

If, O best of serpents, his proposal is acceptable to you, decide quickly, O Aryaka, to accept his daughter as a gift for your grandson. As Lakshmi in the house of Vishnu, or Svaha in the house of Agni, so let the slender-waisted Gunakeshi become a wife in your line. Therefore let Gunakeshi be received by you as fitting for your grandson, as Shachi was for Vasava, who deserved her. Though this youth has lost his father, we choose him for his virtues, and also for the respectability of Airavata and of yourself.
