वैशंपायन उवाच
असिद्धानुनये कृष्णे कुरुभ्यः पाण्डवान् गते ॥
अभिगम्य पृथां क्षत्ता शनैः शोचन्न् इवाब्रवीत् ॥
जानासि मे जीवपुत्रे भावं नित्यम् अनुग्रहे ॥
क्रोशतो न च गृह्णीते वचनं मे सुयोधनः ॥
उपपन्नो ह्य् असौ राजा चेदिपाञ्चालकेकयैः ॥
भीमार्जुनाभ्यां कृष्णेन युयुधानयमैर् अपि ॥
उपप्लव्ये निविष्टो ऽपि धर्मम् एव युधिष्ठिरः ॥
काङ्क्षते ज्ञातिसौहार्दाद् बलवान् दुर्बलो यथा ॥
राजा तु धृतराष्ट्रो ऽयं वयोवृद्धो न शाम्यति ॥
मत्तः पुत्रमदेनैव विधर्मे पथि वर्तते ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
asiddhānunaye kṛṣṇe kurubhyaḥ pāṇḍavān gate ||
abhigamya pṛthāṃ kṣattā śanaiḥ śocann ivābravīt ||
jānāsi me jīvaputre bhāvaṃ nityam anugrahe ||
krośato na ca gṛhṇīte vacanaṃ me suyodhanaḥ ||
upapanno hy asau rājā cedipāñcālakekayaiḥ ||
bhīmārjunābhyāṃ kṛṣṇena yuyudhānayamair api ||
upaplavye niviṣṭo 'pi dharmam eva yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
kāṅkṣate jñātisauhārdād balavān durbalo yathā ||
rājā tu dhṛtarāṣṭro 'yaṃ vayovṛddho na śāmyati ||
mattaḥ putramadenaiva vidharme pathi vartate ||
Vaishampayana said: When Krishna, having failed to achieve reconciliation, departed from the Kurus to the Pandavas, Vidura, grieving, quietly approached Pritha and said: "O mother of living sons, you know my constant disposition toward mercy and welfare. But Suyodhana does not heed my word, though I appeal to him. That king is supported by the Chedis, the Panchalas and the Kekayas, by Bhima and Arjuna, by Krishna, by Yuyudhana and the twins. Even encamped at Upaplavya, the mighty Yudhishthira, out of love for his kin, desires only dharma, as though he were weak. But this king Dhritarashtra, old in years, cannot be calmed; intoxicated with pride in his son, he walks the path of unrighteousness."
