राजन् परीतकालास् ते पुत्राश् चान्ये च भूमिपाः ॥
ते हनिष्यन्ति संग्रामे समासाद्येतरेतरम् ॥
तेषु कालपरीतेषु विनश्यत्सु च भारत ॥
कालपर्यायम् आज्ञाय मा स्म शोके मनः कृथाः ॥
यदि त्व् इच्छसि संग्रामे द्रष्टुम् एनं विशां पते ॥
चक्षुर् ददानि ते हन्त युद्धम् एतन् निशामय ॥

rājan parītakālās te putrāś cānye ca bhūmipāḥ ||
te haniṣyanti saṃgrāme samāsādyetaretaram ||
teṣu kālaparīteṣu vinaśyatsu ca bhārata ||
kālaparyāyam ājñāya mā sma śoke manaḥ kṛthāḥ ||
yadi tv icchasi saṃgrāme draṣṭum enaṃ viśāṃ pate ||
cakṣur dadāni te hanta yuddham etan niśāmaya ||

अनुवाद

Vyasa said: 'O king, your sons and the other lords of the earth are already overtaken by time. Meeting one another in battle, they will destroy each other. O Bharata, when they, seized by time, perish, understand the turning of time and do not plunge your mind into sorrow. But if you wish, O lord of the peoples, to see this battle, I shall grant you sight: well then, behold this fight.'
