सर्वा मणिमयी भूमिः सूक्ष्मकाञ्चनवालुका ॥
सर्वत्र सुखसंस्पर्शा निष्पङ्का च जनाधिप ॥
देवलोकच्युताः सर्वे जायन्ते तत्र मानवाः ॥
तुल्यरूपगुणोपेताः समेषु विषमेषु च ॥
मिथुनानि च जायन्ते स्त्रियश् चाप्सरसोपमाः ॥
तेषां ते क्षीरिणां क्षीरं पिबन्त्य् अमृतसंनिभम् ॥
मिथुनं जायमानं वै समं तच् च प्रवर्धते ॥
तुल्यरूपगुणोपेतं समवेषं तथैव च ॥
एकैकम् अनुरक्तं च चक्रवाकसमं विभो ॥
निरामया वीतशोका नित्यं मुदितमानसाः ॥
दश वर्षसहस्राणि दश वर्षशतानि च ॥
जीवन्ति ते महाराज न चान्योन्यं जहत्य् उत ॥
भारुण्डा नाम शकुनास् तीक्ष्णतुण्डा महाबलाः ॥
ते निर्हरन्ति हि मृतान् दरीषु प्रक्षिपन्ति च ॥
उत्तराः कुरवो राजन् व्याख्यातास् ते समासतः ॥
मेरोः पार्श्वम् अहं पूर्वं वक्ष्याम्य् अथ यथातथम् ॥

devalokacyutāḥ sarve jāyante tatra mānavāḥ ||

ekaikam anuraktaṃ ca cakravākasamaṃ vibho ||
nirāmayā vītaśokā nityaṃ muditamānasāḥ ||
daśa varṣasahasrāṇi daśa varṣaśatāni ca ||
jīvanti te mahārāja na cānyonyaṃ jahaty uta ||
bhāruṇḍā nāma śakunās tīkṣṇatuṇḍā mahābalāḥ ||
te nirharanti hi mṛtān darīṣu prakṣipanti ca ||
uttarāḥ kuravo rājan vyākhyātās te samāsataḥ ||
meroḥ pārśvam ahaṃ pūrvaṃ vakṣyāmy atha yathātatham ||
The whole ground there is jeweled, strewn with fine golden sand; everywhere it is pleasant to the touch and free of mud, O lord of men. All the people born there have descended from the world of the gods; on level ground and on uneven ground alike they are endowed with equal beauty and qualities. They are born in pairs, and the women are like apsarases. These people drink the nectar-like milk of the milk-trees. Each pair, as it is born, grows together, possessing identical form, qualities, and attire; each is devoted to the other, like a pair of chakravaka birds, O lord. They are free from disease, free from sorrow, ever joyful of mind, and they live ten thousand and one thousand years, O great king, never forsaking one another. Birds called bharundas, sharp-beaked and mighty, carry away the dead and cast them into ravines. Thus, O king, I have briefly described to you the northern Kurus; now I shall truly tell of the eastern side of Meru.
