तत्र देवाः सगन्धर्वाश् चारणाश् च सहर्षिभिः ॥
अन्योन्यं प्रत्यभाषन्त तयोर् दृष्ट्वा पराक्रमम् ॥
न शक्यौ युधि संरब्धौ जेतुम् एतौ महारथौ ॥
सदेवासुरगन्धर्वैर् लोकैर् अपि कथं चन ॥
आश्चर्यभूतं लोकेषु युद्धम् एतन् महाद्भुतम् ॥
नैतादृशानि युद्धानि भविष्यन्ति कथं चन ॥
नापि शक्यो रणे जेतुं भीष्मः पार्थेन धीमता ॥
सधनुश् च रथस्थश् च प्रवपन् सायकान् रणे ॥
तथैव पाण्डवं युद्धे देवैर् अपि दुरासदम् ॥
न विजेतुं रणे भीष्म उत्सहेत धनुर्धरम् ॥
इति स्म वाचः श्रूयन्ते प्रोच्चरन्त्यस् ततस् ततः ॥
गाङ्गेयार्जुनयोः संख्ये स्तवयुक्ता विशां पते ॥

āścaryabhūtaṃ lokeṣu yuddham etan mahādbhutam ||
naitādṛśāni yuddhāni bhaviṣyanti kathaṃ cana ||
nāpi śakyo raṇe jetuṃ bhīṣmaḥ pārthena dhīmatā ||
sadhanuś ca rathasthaś ca pravapan sāyakān raṇe ||
tathaiva pāṇḍavaṃ yuddhe devair api durāsadam ||
na vijetuṃ raṇe bhīṣma utsaheta dhanurdharam ||
iti sma vācaḥ śrūyante proccarantyas tatas tataḥ ||
gāṅgeyārjunayoḥ saṃkhye stavayuktā viśāṃ pate ||

चारणाः च सहर्षिभिःcāraṇāḥ ca saharṣibhiḥand the charanas with the rishis; the charanas together with the sages
अन्योन्यम् प्रत्यभाषन्तanyonyam pratyabhāṣantasaid to one another; spoke to each other
तयोः दृष्ट्वा पराक्रमम्tayoḥ dṛṣṭvā parākramamhaving seen their valor; seeing their mighty onslaught
न शक्यौ युधि संरब्धौna śakyau yudhi saṃrabdhauthese furious ones cannot in battle; it is impossible in battle for these enraged ones
जेतुम् एतौ महारथौjetum etau mahārathauto be defeated, these two great chariot-warriors; to overcome these two great chariot-warriors
सदेवासुरगन्धर्वैःsadevāsuragandharvaiḥby the gods, asuras, and gandharvas; even by gods, asuras, and gandharvas
लोकैः अपि कथं चनlokaiḥ api kathaṃ canaby the worlds, in any way whatsoever; by all the worlds, in no way at all

भीष्मः पार्थेन धीमताbhīṣmaḥ pārthena dhīmatāBhishma, by the wise Partha; Bhishma, by the sagacious Arjuna
सधनुः च रथस्थः चsadhanuḥ ca rathasthaḥ cawith his bow and standing on his chariot; when he is with his bow and in his chariot
प्रवपन् सायकान् रणेpravapan sāyakān raṇescattering arrows in battle; pouring forth arrows in the fight
तथा एव पाण्डवम् युद्धेtathā eva pāṇḍavam yuddhelikewise the Pandava in battle; just so Arjuna in the fight

स्तवयुक्ताः विशां पतेstavayuktāḥ viśāṃ patefilled with praise, lord of men; joined with acclaim
अनुवाद

There the gods, together with the gandharvas, charanas, and rishis, having seen the valor of these two, said to one another: "These two furious great chariot-warriors cannot be defeated in battle by any means, not even by all the worlds together with the gods, asuras, and gandharvas. This battle has become a wonder to the worlds, great and astonishing; there will never be such battles again. Bhishma, when he stands on his chariot with his bow, pouring forth arrows in battle, cannot be defeated even by the wise Partha; and just so Bhishma could not overcome in battle the Pandava, an archer hard to approach even for the gods." Such words, full of praise for Bhishma and Arjuna, resounded from every side, O lord of men.
