अनुवाद

Chariot-warriors advanced against elephants, and elephants against chariot-warriors; horsemen against horsemen, and chariot-warriors against horsemen. In the great battle, o king, chariot-warrior fell upon charioteer and upon elephants; elephant-riders upon chariot-warriors, and chariot-warriors upon horsemen. Chariot-warriors together with foot soldiers, and horsemen together with foot soldiers, rushed upon one another in fury in the battle, o king. The Pandava army, guarded by Bhimasena, Arjuna, the twins, and other great chariot-warriors, shone like a night adorned with stars. So too your army, with Bhishma, Kripa, Drona, Shalya, Duryodhana, and the rest, blazed like the sky covered with planets. Valiant Bhimasena, son of Kunti, on seeing Drona, charged on swift horses toward the army of Bharadvaja. Drona, enraged in the battle, o king, pierced Bhima with nine iron arrows, the valiant one aiming at his vital points. Then Bhima, grievously wounded in the encounter with Bharadvaja, sent his charioteer to the abode of Yama. Mighty Bharadvaja himself then took up the reins and scattered the Pandava army, as fire scatters a heap of cotton. Slain by Drona and by Bhishma, o best of men, the Srinjayas together with the Kekayas became inclined to flee. So too your army, cut to pieces by Bhima and Arjuna, fell into confusion everywhere, like a bewildered, beautiful woman. Then the two formations were torn apart in that destruction of the finest heroes, and a dreadful confusion arose between your men and theirs, o Bharata. We beheld a marvel: all of yours and the enemy, having come to a single path, fought together, o Bharata. Parrying one another's weapons, the Pandavas and the great Kuru chariot-warriors battled with each other, o lord of men.'
