अथाभिमन्युं समरे भीमसेनेन संगतम् ॥
पार्षतेन च संप्रेक्ष्य तव सैन्ये महारथाः ॥
दुर्योधनप्रभृतयः प्रगृहीतशरासनाः ॥
भृशम् अश्वैः प्रजवितैः प्रययुर् यत्र ते रथाः ॥
अपराह्णे ततो राजन् प्रावर्तत महान् रणः ॥
तावकानां च बलिनां परेषां चैव भारत ॥
अभिमन्युर् विकर्णस्य हयान् हत्वा महाजवान् ॥
अथैनं पञ्चविंशत्या क्षुद्रकाणां समाचिनोत् ॥
हताश्वं रथम् उत्सृज्य विकर्णस् तु महारथः ॥
आरुरोह रथं राजंश् चित्रसेनस्य भास्वरम् ॥
स्थिताव् एकरथे तौ तु भ्रातरौ कुरुवर्धनौ ॥
आर्जुनिः शरजालेन छादयाम् आस भारत ॥
दुर्जयो ऽथ विकर्णश् च कार्ष्णिं पञ्चभिर् आयसैः ॥
विव्यधाते न चाकम्पत् कार्ष्णिर् मेरुर् इवाचलः ॥
दुःशासनस् तु समरे केकयान् पञ्च मारिष ॥
योधयाम् आस राजेन्द्र तद् अद्भुतम् इवाभवत् ॥
द्रौपदेया रणे क्रुद्धा दुर्योधनम् अवारयन् ॥
एकैकस् त्रिभिर् आनर्छत् पुत्रं तव विशां पते ॥
पुत्रो ऽपि तव दुर्धर्षो द्रौपद्यास् तनयान् रणे ॥
सायकैर् निशितै राजन्न् आजघान पृथक् पृथक् ॥
तैश् चापि विद्धः शुशुभे रुधिरेण समुक्षितः ॥
गिरिप्रस्रवणैर् यद्वद् गिरिर् धातुविमिश्रितैः ॥

āruroha rathaṃ rājaṃś citrasenasya bhāsvaram ||
sthitāv ekarathe tau tu bhrātarau kuruvardhanau ||
ārjuniḥ śarajālena chādayām āsa bhārata ||
durjayo 'tha vikarṇaś ca kārṣṇiṃ pañcabhir āyasaiḥ ||
vivyadhāte na cākampat kārṣṇir merur ivācalaḥ ||
duḥśāsanas tu samare kekayān pañca māriṣa ||
yodhayām āsa rājendra tad adbhutam ivābhavat ||
draupadeyā raṇe kruddhā duryodhanam avārayan ||
ekaikas tribhir ānarchat putraṃ tava viśāṃ pate ||
putro 'pi tava durdharṣo draupadyās tanayān raṇe ||
sāyakair niśitai rājann ājaghāna pṛthak pṛthak ||
taiś cāpi viddhaḥ śuśubhe rudhireṇa samukṣitaḥ ||
giriprasravaṇair yadvad girir dhātuvimiśritaiḥ ||
Then the great chariot-warriors in your army saw that Abhimanyu had joined battle with Bhimasena and Parshata. Duryodhana and the others, raising their bows, drove their very swift horses toward those chariots. After midday, O king, a great battle broke out between your mighty men and the enemy, O Bharata. Abhimanyu slew Vikarna's very swift horses and then covered him with twenty-five small arrows. Vikarna, the great chariot-warrior, abandoned his horseless chariot and mounted, O king, the shining chariot of Chitrasena. These two brothers who upheld the Kurus stood together on a single chariot, and the son of Arjuna covered them with a net of arrows, O Bharata. Then Durjaya and Vikarna pierced Karshni with five iron arrows, but Karshni did not waver, like the immovable Meru. Duhshasana, revered one, fought in battle against the five Kekayas, O king of kings, and it seemed a wonder. The enraged sons of Draupadi in battle held back Duryodhana: each struck your son with three arrows, O lord of the people. But your unconquerable son, O king, struck the sons of Draupadi one by one with sharp arrows. Pierced by them and sprinkled with blood, he shone like a mountain bathed in streams mingled with red minerals."
