अनुवाद

Then Shikhandi, seizing his mighty weapon, rushed swiftly straight at Bhishma, shielded by Kiritin. After this, Bibhatsu the unconquered, versed in the divisions of battle, slew all of Bhishma's followers and himself charged straight at him. Satyaki, Chekitana, Dhrishtadyumna the son of Prishata, Virata, Drupada, and the two sons of Madri, the Pandavas, likewise rushed straight at Bhishma in battle under the protection of the firm-bowed Arjuna. Abhimanyu and the five sons of Draupadi, their great weapons raised, also charged at Bhishma in the fight. All of them, firm of bow and never fleeing the field, skilled marksmen, showered Bhishma with arrows again and again. But the grandfather, as if at play, shook off the masses of arrows loosed by the finest kings, warded them off, and plunged into the army of the Pandavas, undaunted in spirit. Remembering Shikhandi's former womanhood, Bhishma smiled again and again and would not aim at the son of Panchala; he struck down Shikhandi's arrows instead, while in the ranks of Drupada this great chariot-warrior cut down seven chariots. Then, among the Matsyas, Panchalas and Chedis, who were attacking him alone, a tumultuous roar arose in an instant. With their finest troops of horses and chariots, with elephants and foot soldiers, they covered him alone as clouds cover the sun - Bhishma, son of Ganga, who was scorching his enemies in battle. And then, in a battle resembling that of gods and demons, Kiritin showered Bhishma with arrows, having placed Shikhandi in front of him."
