खाण्डवे पार्थसहितस् तोषयित्वा हुताशनम् ॥
आग्नेयम् अस्त्रं दुर्धर्षं चक्रं लेभे महाबलः ॥
वैनतेयं समारुह्य त्रासयित्वामरावतीम् ॥
महेन्द्रभवनाद् वीरः पारिजातम् उपानयत् ॥
तच् च मर्षितवाञ् शक्रो जानंस् तस्य पराक्रमम् ॥
राज्ञां चाप्य् अजितं कं चित् कृष्णेनेह न शुश्रुम ॥

āgneyam astraṃ durdharṣaṃ cakraṃ lebhe mahābalaḥ ||
vainateyaṃ samāruhya trāsayitvāmarāvatīm ||
mahendrabhavanād vīraḥ pārijātam upānayat ||
tac ca marṣitavāñ śakro jānaṃs tasya parākramam ||
rājñāṃ cāpy ajitaṃ kaṃ cit kṛṣṇeneha na śuśruma ||
At [the burning of] Khandava, together with Partha [Arjuna], having gratified Agni, the devourer of oblations, the mighty [Krishna] obtained the unassailable weapon of Agni — the disc-chakra. Having mounted Vainateya [Garuda], having struck Amaravati [Indra's city] with dread, the hero [Krishna] carried off the [tree] Parijata from the palace of Mahendra [Indra]. And this Shakra [Indra] endured, knowing Krishna's valor; and we have not heard that any king here was ever left unconquered by Krishna.

Indra himself, king of the gods, "silently bears" Krishna's boldness in carrying off the celestial tree: before the Lord even the ruler of heaven submits, for Krishna is above the gods. This is no willfulness but the manifestation of the hierarchy of being — all, even gods, are subject to the Supreme. The conclusion, "there was no king left unconquered by Krishna," draws the line: the Lord has no rival in any world. The verse teaches that even the gods submit to the Supreme, for He is their source and ruler; that before Krishna every power, earthly and heavenly, is humbled; and that there is no one in the universe who could withstand Him — and therefore the side He shelters is invincible by that very fact.
