जज्वालालंकृतैः सेना पत्रिभिः प्राणभोजनैः ॥
नानालिङ्गैस् तदामित्रान् क्रुद्धे निघ्नति फल्गुने ॥
क्षोभयन्तं तदा सेनां द्विरदं नलिनीम् इव ॥
धनंजयं भूतगणाः साधु साध्व् इत्य् अपूजयन् ॥
दृष्ट्वा तत् कर्म पार्थस्य वासवस्येव माधवः ॥
विस्मयं परमं गत्वा तलम् आहत्य पूजयत् ॥
jajvālālaṃkṛtaiḥ senā patribhiḥ prāṇabhojanaiḥ ||
nānāliṅgais tadāmitrān kruddhe nighnati phalgune ||
kṣobhayantaṃ tadā senāṃ dviradaṃ nalinīm iva ||
dhanaṃjayaṃ bhūtagaṇāḥ sādhu sādhv ity apūjayan ||
dṛṣṭvā tat karma pārthasya vāsavasyeva mādhavaḥ ||
vismayaṃ paramaṃ gatvā talam āhatya pūjayat ||
The army blazed with adorned, feathered, life-devouring arrows of various patterns, when enraged Phalguna smote the enemies. Dhananjaya, then disturbing the army like an elephant a lotus pond, the hosts of beings praised, crying: "Well done, well done!" Seeing that feat of Partha, as if of Indra, Madhava, falling into utmost amazement, clapping palm to palm, glorified him.

Krishna himself, the Lord, marvels at Arjuna's feat and claps his hands, praising his friend -- while unseen hosts of beings cry "well done!" Here the tenderness of divine friendship shows itself: the Supreme rejoices in the valor of His devotee just as a man would rejoice in a friend's feat. It is significant that both spirits and God Himself join in praise -- a deed of true valor is glorified by both earth and heaven. The verse teaches that the Lord is not only the source of the devotee's strength but also the foremost admirer of his feat; that divine love descends so far as to applaud a friend in a human way; and that true greatness calls forth a unanimous response from all beings -- when valor reaches its height, both unseen beings and the Supreme Himself applaud it.
