एवं वरम् अहं श्रुत्वा जगत्यास् तनये तदा ॥
अमोघम् अस्त्रम् अददं वैष्णवं तद् अहं पुरा ॥
अवोचं चैतद् अस्त्रं वै ह्य् अमोघं भवतु क्षमे ॥
नरकस्याभिरक्षार्थं नैनं कश् चिद् वधिष्यति ॥
अनेनास्त्रेण ते गुप्तः सुतः परबलार्दनः ॥
भविष्यति दुराधर्षः सर्वलोकेषु सर्वदा ॥
evaṃ varam ahaṃ śrutvā jagatyās tanaye tadā ||
amogham astram adadaṃ vaiṣṇavaṃ tad ahaṃ purā ||
avocaṃ caitad astraṃ vai hy amoghaṃ bhavatu kṣame ||
narakasyābhirakṣārthaṃ nainaṃ kaś cid vadhiṣyati ||
anenāstreṇa te guptaḥ sutaḥ parabalārdanaḥ ||
bhaviṣyati durādharṣaḥ sarvalokeṣu sarvadā ||
So, having heard the request for a boon, I then granted to Earth's son the unfailing weapon of Vishnu. And I said long ago: 'Let this weapon be unfailing on earth, for the protection of Naraka; let no one slay him. Guarded by this weapon, your son, crusher of enemy forces, shall become unconquerable in all the worlds, forever.'

The Lord Himself set the limit: the weapon is unfailing, and whoever it guards cannot be slain by anyone. His word is law, and as long as it stands, Naraka and the heir to his weapon are invulnerable. This shows that every protection in the world, even a demonic one, ultimately rests on the Lord's word. It is significant that only the One who set this limit has the power to lift it. The verse teaches that the strength of any armor and the invulnerability of any gift rest not on themselves but on the word of the Giver; that no one can overcome one kept by the Lord's promise; and that this is precisely why everyone but God Himself is powerless against a protection granted by God — for only the One who established the law is free to revoke it, and so the resolution can come only by His own hand.
