संजय उवाच
समरे ऽत्युग्रकर्माणः कर्मभिर् व्यञ्जितश्रमाः ॥
सकृष्णाः पाण्डवाः पञ्च देवैर् अपि दुरासदाः ॥
सत्त्वकर्मान्वयैर् बुद्ध्या प्रकृत्या यशसा श्रिया ॥
नैव भूतो न भविता कृष्णतुल्यगुणः पुमान् ॥
सत्यधर्मपरो दाता विप्रपूजादिभिर् गुणैः ॥
सदैव त्रिदिवं प्राप्तो राजा किल युधिष्ठिरः ॥

samare 'tyugrakarmāṇaḥ karmabhir vyañjitaśramāḥ ||
sakṛṣṇāḥ pāṇḍavāḥ pañca devair api durāsadāḥ ||
sattvakarmānvayair buddhyā prakṛtyā yaśasā śriyā ||
naiva bhūto na bhavitā kṛṣṇatulyaguṇaḥ pumān ||
satyadharmaparo dātā viprapūjādibhir guṇaiḥ ||
sadaiva tridivaṃ prāpto rājā kila yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
Performing the most terrible deeds in battle, having shown by their feats tireless diligence, the five Pandavas together with Krishna are unconquerable even by the gods. In courage, deeds and lineage, in intellect, disposition, fame and splendor, there never was and never will be a man equal in qualities to Krishna. Devoted to truth and dharma, generous, adorned with virtues -- honoring brahmins and the rest -- King Yudhishthira, they say, unfailingly ascends to the heavens.

Dhritarashtra himself, father of the Pandavas' enemies, admits their invincibility and Krishna's incomparability -- "there never was and never will be a man equal to Him." The truth of the Lord's and the righteous's supremacy is plain even to an adversary, however partial he may be. It is significant that Yudhishthira is said to "ascend to heaven" already in this life -- righteousness opens heaven before death. The verse teaches that the Lord's qualities are such that none have ever equaled or will ever equal them, and even an enemy admits this; that moral truth is plain to anyone in whom conscience still lives, and an enemy is compelled to honor the virtue of his foe; and that devotion to truth, generosity, and honoring the holy raise a person toward heaven already here, for a righteous life is itself an ascent that does not wait for the hour of death.
