संजय उवाच
एवम् आश्वासितो राजन् भारद्वाजेन सैन्धवः ॥
अपानुदद् भयं पार्थाद् युद्धाय च मनो दधे ॥

Thus encouraged, O king, by the son of Bharadvaja, the lord of Sindhu drove off his fear of Partha and set his mind upon battle.

The teacher's word achieves what neither numbers nor Duryodhana's flattery could: "apānudat bhayaṃ... yuddhāya manaḥ dadhe," "he drove off his fear and turned his mind to battle." It is telling that peace comes to Jayadratha not from the promise of another's protection but from the union of truth (that Arjuna is greater), protection (Drona's arm), and the highest truth (that all things are transient and duty equals austerity). Yet the reader remembers Arjuna's vow: this newly won calm is doomed. The verse teaches that speech grounded in truth and duty can restore courage even to the fearful; but no encouragement can undo the fated end toward which the doomed man now walks with firm step.
