घटोत्कचो यदि हन्याद् धि कर्णं; परो लाभः स भवेत् पाण्डवानाम् ॥
वैकर्तनो वा यदि तं निहन्यात्; तथापि कृत्यं शक्तिनाशात् कृतं स्यात् ॥
इति प्राज्ञः प्रज्ञयैतद् विचार्य; घटोत्कचं सूतपुत्रेण युद्धे ॥
अयोधयद् वासुदेवो नृसिंहः; प्रियं कुर्वन् पाण्डवानां हितं च ॥

ghaṭotkaco yadi hanyād dhi karṇaṃ; paro lābhaḥ sa bhavet pāṇḍavānām ||
vaikartano vā yadi taṃ nihanyāt; tathāpi kṛtyaṃ śaktināśāt kṛtaṃ syāt ||
iti prājñaḥ prajñayaitad vicārya; ghaṭotkacaṃ sūtaputreṇa yuddhe ||
ayodhayad vāsudevo nṛsiṃhaḥ; priyaṃ kurvan pāṇḍavānāṃ hitaṃ ca ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

घटोत्कचः यदि हन्यात् हि कर्णम्ghaṭotkacaḥ yadi hanyāt hi karṇamGhatotkacha if he slew Karna; should Ghatotkacha slay Karna
परः लाभः सः भवेत् पाण्डवानाम्paraḥ lābhaḥ saḥ bhavet pāṇḍavānāmsupreme gain that would be for the Pandavas; that would be a supreme gain for the Pandavas
वैकर्तनः वा यदि तम् निहन्यात्vaikartanaḥ vā yadi tam nihanyātVaikartana or if him slew; or should Vaikartana slay him
तथा अपि कृत्यम्tathā api kṛtyamlikewise the deed; just so the deed
शक्तिनाशात् कृतम् स्यात्śaktināśāt kṛtam syātby the loss of the dart done would be; would be accomplished — by the loss of the dart
इति प्राज्ञः प्रज्ञया एतत् विचार्यiti prājñaḥ prajñayā etat vicāryaso the wise one, by wisdom this having considered; thus the wise one, having considered this with wisdom
घटोत्कचम् सूतपुत्रेण युद्धेghaṭotkacam sūtaputreṇa yuddheGhatotkacha with the son of the suta in battle; Ghatotkacha with the son of the suta in battle
अयोधयत् वासुदेवः नृसिंहःayodhayat vāsudevaḥ nṛsiṃhaḥset to fighting Vasudeva, the man-lion; set to fighting, Vasudeva, the lion among men
प्रियम् कुर्वन् पाण्डवानाम् हितम् चpriyam kurvan pāṇḍavānām hitam cawhat is dear doing for the Pandavas and benefit; doing what is dear to the Pandavas, and their good
अनुवाद

"Should Ghatotkacha slay Karna — that would be a supreme gain for the Pandavas; or should Vaikartana slay him — even so the deed would be accomplished, by the loss of the dart. So the wise one [Krishna], having considered this with wisdom, set Ghatotkacha to fighting the son of the suta in battle — Vasudeva, the lion among men, doing what is dear to the Pandavas, and their good."
