译文

‘Brahma had six mind-born sons, known [as] the great sages: Marichi, Atri, Angiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Kratu. The son of Marichi was Kashyapa; and from Kashyapa and the thirteen blessed daughters of Daksha these creatures were born. [These were] Aditi, Diti, Danu, Kala, Anayus, Simhika, Muni, Krodha, Prava, Arishta, Vinata, Kapila, and Kadru, O tiger among men, O Bharata — [all] daughters of Daksha. Their offspring — sons and grandsons, full of valor — [were] endless. From Aditi were born the twelve Adityas, lords of the world; I shall name them for you, O king, O Bharata: Dhatri, Mitra, Aryaman, Shakra, Varuna and Ansha, Bhaga, Vivasvan, Pushan, and the tenth — Savitri; the eleventh — Tvashtri, and Vishnu is called the twelfth; born last of all, he surpasses [all] the Adityas in virtue. Diti had one son — remembered as Hiranyakashipu; and his five sons, of great spirit, are renowned by name: Prahlada, the eldest among them, then Samhrada, Anuhrada was the third, and after them — Shibi and Bashkala. Prahlada had three sons, renowned everywhere, O Bharata: Virochana, Kumbha, and Nikumbha, [thus] known. The son of Virochana was mighty Bali, the only one; and the renowned son of Bali was a great asura named Bana.’
