तस्मिन् समुदिते रङ्गे कथं चित् पर्यवस्थितेtasmin samudite raṅge kathaṃ cit paryavasthitewhen the agitated arena had somewhat calmed down,
दर्शयाम् आस बीभत्सुः आचार्यात् अस्त्रलाघवम्darśayām āsa bībhatsuḥ ācāryāt astralāghavamBibhatsu (Arjuna) displayed the skill in weapons [acquired] from his teacher:
आग्नेयेन असृजत् वह्निं वारुणेन असृजत् पयःāgneyena asṛjat vahniṃ vāruṇena asṛjat payaḥwith the [weapon] Agneya he brought forth fire, with Varuna — water,
वायव्येन असृजत् वायुं पार्जन्येन असृजत् घनान्vāyavyena asṛjat vāyuṃ pārjanyena asṛjat ghanānwith Vayavya — wind, with Parjanya — clouds,
भौमेन प्राविशत् भूमिं पार्वतेन असृजत् गिरीन्bhaumena prāviśat bhūmiṃ pārvatena asṛjat girīnwith [the weapon] Bhauma he entered the earth, with Parvatya — brought forth mountains,
अन्तर्धानेन च अस्त्रेण पुनः अन्तर्हितः अभवत्antardhānena ca astreṇa punaḥ antarhitaḥ abhavatand with the weapon Antardhana he became invisible again;
क्षणात् प्रांशुः क्षणात् ह्रस्वः क्षणात् च रथधूर्गतःkṣaṇāt prāṃśuḥ kṣaṇāt hrasvaḥ kṣaṇāt ca rathadhūrgataḥin an instant tall, in an instant short, in an instant [standing] on the chariot pole,
क्षणेन रथमध्यस्थः क्षणेन अवापतत् महीम्kṣaṇena rathamadhyasthaḥ kṣaṇena avāpatat mahīmin an instant in the middle of the chariot, in an instant descending to the ground

Here Arjuna displays mastery over the elements through divine weapons. Telling is that a trained warrior commands fire, water, wind, earth, mountains — the very primal elements: the highest art, sanctified by mantra, gains power over nature itself. The scripture shows here the fruit of discipline and grace: having mastered the astras from his teacher, a man becomes a partaker of powers ordinarily beyond mortal reach. Telling too is Arjuna's instantaneous changeability — now tall, now small, now here, now there: perfect mastery of body and weapon shows itself as an almost magical freedom. Yet it must be remembered: any such power is a gift from above and an instrument of dharma, not an end in itself; Arjuna's greatness lies not in wonders but in that he will use them to restore truth by the will of the Lord.
