अस्पृशन् मुकुटं राज्ञः पुण्डरीकसुगन्धिना ॥

Here care is joined with reverence — even in helping, honor is preserved. It is telling that the minister, sprinkling the king, "does not touch the crown": even in saving his lord, the faithful one preserves the marks of his rank. Here is seen the subtlety of devoted service: it attends to well-being without demeaning dignity. Telling too is the delicacy — cool, fragrant water: service is rendered with love and care. Thus the text shows that true service is careful and respectful; and the minister tends the king without forgetting his kingliness.
