तपस्विनस् ततो ऽपृच्छत् प्राज्ञलिः कुरुनन्दनः ॥
तीर्थानीमानि वर्ज्यन्ते किमर्थं ब्रह्मवादिभिः ॥

"Having noticed those tirthas deserted and seen them avoided by right-minded sages, the Pandava then asked the ascetics, with palms joined, the delight of the Kurus: 'Why are these tirthas avoided by the knowers of Brahman?'"

Here the hero respectfully inquires before acting. It is significant that Arjuna addresses the ascetics 'with palms joined': even the mighty honors the holy and does not disregard their wisdom. Here is the humility of strength before sanctity. Thus the scripture reveals Arjuna's courtesy; and the answer will disclose to him the hidden calamity.
