बाहुभिः समसज्जेताम् आयसैः परिघैर् इव ॥

译文
Then, with a great cry, reviling one another, they struck each other with blows like a landslide of stones. Broad-chested, long-armed, both skilled in wrestling, they clashed with their arms, [strong] as iron bars.

Here appears the limit of earthly might — arms strong 'as iron bars,' and blows like a landslide of stones. It is significant that this indomitable strength is still not enough: the two are equal, and neither fury nor skill gives the advantage. The verse quietly prepares the central point of the narrative — that Jarasandha, whom even the weapons of the gods cannot harm, will be broken not by superior strength, but by Bhima, to whom the Lord will point the way. Strength without guidance from above runs up against its own limit.
