The flame issuing from Bhima's body is a visible image of anger risen to superhuman measure — but righteous anger, for it flared up over a violated purity. The comparison to a burning tree is profound: a tree burns from within before it falls — so too in Bhima that consuming force ripens which will, in its hour, fall upon the guilty. The verse teaches that there is an indignation too great for a human body to contain, for it is an echo of dharma itself, trampled before heaven and earth; and that righteous anger, suppressed yet not extinguished, does not vanish but accumulates, like a hidden fire, until the hour the vow is fulfilled.
