Ashtavakra speaks of six: in six foundations some name the dakshina, these six seasons are the wheel of time, six senses, six Krittikas, six sadyaska rites seen in all the Vedas; Bandi speaks of seven domestic and seven wild animals, seven meters carrying one sacrifice, seven sages, seven honorings, and the famed seven-stringed vina; Ashtavakra speaks of eight shanas making a shatamana, the eight-legged sharabha that slays the lion, the eight Vasus we have heard of among the gods, and the eight-cornered sacrificial post set up in every sacrifice; Bandi speaks of nine samidhenis of the ancestors, nine yogas of creation, the nine-syllabled brihati, the eternal count of nine; Ashtavakra speaks of ten states of man, a thousand said to be ten full hundreds, ten months borne by the pregnant, ten erakas, ten dashas and Dasharnas; Bandi speaks of the eleven animals of the ekadashin, eleven sacrificial posts here, eleven transformations of living beings, and eleven Rudras named among the gods in heaven; Ashtavakra speaks of the year of twelve months, the twelve syllables of the jagati foot, the twelve-day prakrita sacrifice, and the twelve Adityas spoken of by the learned here; Bandi speaks of the dread thirteenth tithi and the earth possessing thirteen continents; Lomasha says that Bandi, having said only this, fell silent, and Ashtavakra uttered the second half of the verse: Keshi wandered thirteen days, and they speak of thirteen opening atichchhandas meters; then a great uproar arose, as the son of the suta fell silent and lowered his face in thought, while Ashtavakra continued to speak; all the brahmins, rejoicing and with joined palms, came forward to honor Ashtavakra.

Bandi said: "One alone is Agni, kindled in many ways; one sun illumines all this. One hero, the king of the gods, the destroyer; and Yama, lord of the ancestors, is likewise one." Ashtavakra said: "Two, Indra and Agni, walk together as friends; two divine seers -- Narada and Parvata. Two Ashvins, two wheels upon the chariot; two, wife and husband, established by the Creator." Bandi said: "Thrice this offspring is born through action; three yoked ones carry the vajapeya. The adhvaryus extend three savanas; three worlds and three luminaries are spoken of." Ashtavakra said: "The fourfold is the dwelling of the brahmins; four yoked ones bear this sacrifice. Four directions and four varnas; the cow is always called four-footed." Bandi said: "Five fires and the five-footed pankti; five sacrifices, and likewise five senses. In the Veda five wonders are seen, and in the world the holy Panchanada is renowned." Ashtavakra said: "In six foundations some name the dakshina; these six seasons are the wheel of time. Six senses, six Krittikas; six sadyaska rites are seen in all the Vedas." Bandi said: "Seven domestic animals and seven wild; seven meters carry one sacrifice. Seven sages, seven honorings; and renowned is the seven-stringed vina." Ashtavakra said: "Eight shanas make up a shatamana; likewise the eight-legged sharabha slays the lion. We have heard of eight Vasus among the gods; the eight-cornered sacrificial post is set up in every sacrifice." Bandi said: "Nine samidhenis are named for the ancestors; likewise they speak of nine yogas of creation. The brihati is prescribed as nine-syllabled; nine continually enters into the count." Ashtavakra said: "Ten states of man are named in the world; a thousand, they say, is ten full hundreds. Ten months the pregnant carry; there are ten erakas, ten dashas, and Dasharnas." Bandi said: "Eleven are the animals of the ekadashin; eleven sacrificial posts there are here. Eleven are the transformations of living beings; eleven Rudras are named among the gods in heaven." Ashtavakra said: "The year is called twelve-monthed; the foot of the jagati has twelve syllables. The prakrita sacrifice is called twelve-day; here the learned speak of twelve Adityas." Bandi said: "The thirteenth tithi is called most dreadful; and the earth has thirteen continents." Lomasha said: "Having said only this, Bandi fell silent; Ashtavakra uttered the half-verse: 'Keshi wandered for thirteen days; and they speak of thirteen opening atichchhandas meters.' Then a great uproar arose, as the son of the suta fell silent, lowered his face, and sank into thought, while Ashtavakra continued speaking. In that vast assembly, at the great sacrifice of King Janaka, all the brahmins, honoring Ashtavakra, joyful, with joined palms, approached him."
