पाण्डवाश् च महेष्वासा दूतवाक्यप्रचोदिताः ॥

अनुस्मरंश् च संक्लेशान् न शान्तिम् उपयाति सः ॥
तस्य चिन्तापरीतस्य बुद्धिर् जज्ञे महात्मनः ॥
बहुव्यालमृगाकीर्णं त्यक्तुं द्वैतवनं वनम् ॥
धार्तराष्ट्रो ऽपि नृपतिः प्रशशास वसुंधराम् ॥
भ्रातृभिः सहितो वीरैर् भीष्मद्रोणकृपैस् तथा ॥
संगम्य सूतपुत्रेण कर्णेनाहवशोभिना ॥
दुर्योधनः प्रिये नित्यं वर्तमानो महीपतिः ॥
पूजयाम् आस विप्रेन्द्रान् क्रतुभिर् भूरिदक्षिणैः ॥
भ्रातॄणां च प्रियं राजन् स चकार परंतपः ॥
निश्चित्य मनसा वीरो दत्तभुक्तफलं धनम् ॥

tasya cintāparītasya buddhir jajñe mahātmanaḥ ||
bahuvyālamṛgākīrṇaṃ tyaktuṃ dvaitavanaṃ vanam ||
dhārtarāṣṭro 'pi nṛpatiḥ praśaśāsa vasuṃdharām ||
bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito vīrair bhīṣmadroṇakṛpais tathā ||
saṃgamya sūtaputreṇa karṇenāhavaśobhinā ||
duryodhanaḥ priye nityaṃ vartamāno mahīpatiḥ ||
pūjayām āsa viprendrān kratubhir bhūridakṣiṇaiḥ ||
bhrātṝṇāṃ ca priyaṃ rājan sa cakāra paraṃtapaḥ ||
niścitya manasā vīro dattabhuktaphalaṃ dhanam ||
The mighty archers, the Pandavas, urged on by the envoy's words, thought of this very matter and found no rest anywhere. Again, O king, the spies brought word of the charioteer's son's vow to slay Vijaya. Hearing this, the son of Dharma grew troubled, O lord of men: he considered Karna unbreakable because of his armor and wondrous prowess, recalled the sufferings he had endured, and found no peace. As this thought took hold of his great soul, the resolve was born in him to abandon the forest of Dvaitavana, teeming with many beasts of prey and wild animals. The son of Dhritarashtra, meanwhile, the king, ruled the earth together with his heroic brothers, and with Bhishma, Drona and Kripa. Duryodhana, lord of the earth, ever acting pleasingly together with the charioteer's son Karna, resplendent in battle, honored the foremost brahmins with sacrifices and abundant gifts, and, O king, did what was most pleasing to his brothers, having resolved in his mind that wealth given and enjoyed bears fruit."
