परमं भगवन् देव संगमिष्ये त्वया सह ॥
यदि पुत्रो भवेद् एवं यथा वदसि गोपते ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
तथेत्य् उक्त्वा तु तां कुन्तीम् आविवेश विहंगमः ॥
स्वर्भानुशत्रुर् योगात्मा नाभ्यां पस्पर्श चैव ताम् ॥
ततः सा विह्वलेवासीत् कन्या सूर्यस्य तेजसा ॥
पपाताथ च सा देवी शयने मूढचेतना ॥

साधयिष्यामि सुश्रोणि पुत्रं वै जनयिष्यसि ॥
सर्वशस्त्रभृतां श्रेष्ठं कन्या चैव भविष्यसि ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
ततः सा व्रीडिता बाला तदा सूर्यम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
एवम् अस्त्व् इति राजेन्द्र प्रस्थितं भूरिवर्चसम् ॥
इति स्मोक्ता कुन्तिराजात्मजा सा; विवस्वन्तं याचमाना सलज्जा ॥
तस्मिन् पुण्ये शयनीये पपात; मोहाविष्टा भज्यमाना लतेव ॥
तां तिग्मांशुस् तेजसा मोहयित्वा; योगेनाविष्यात्मसंस्थां चकार ॥
न चैवैनां दूषयाम् आस भानुः; संज्ञां लेभे भूय एवाथ बाला ॥

tāṃ tigmāṃśus tejasā mohayitvā; yogenāviṣyātmasaṃsthāṃ cakāra ||
na caivaināṃ dūṣayām āsa bhānuḥ; saṃjñāṃ lebhe bhūya evātha bālā ||

译文

Pritha said: "Blessed god, I will unite with you if the son will be as you say, lord of the rays." Having said "so be it," Surya, the enemy of Svarbhanu, entered Kunti by his yogic power and touched her at the navel. From his radiance the maiden lost consciousness and fell upon the couch. Surya said: "O fair-hipped one, I shall accomplish this: you shall bear the foremost of weapon-bearers, and you shall be a maiden again." The bewildered young Kunti said to the departing, all-radiant Surya: "So be it." She fell upon the sacred couch as though she were a breaking vine. Blinding her with his radiance, Bhanu entered by yoga and established himself within her, yet did not defile her; then the young woman regained her senses once more.

注释

The verse holds two things at once: Karna's birth comes from Surya, and yet Kunti is not deprived of her maidenly purity. This matters for her later fate and for her secret.
