वैशंपायन उवाच
यदार्जुनेन ते वीराः कथिताः पञ्च पाण्डवाः ॥
तदार्जुनस्य वैराटिः कथयाम् आस विक्रमम् ॥
अयं स द्विषतां मध्ये मृगाणाम् इव केसरी ॥
अचरद् रथवृन्देषु निघ्नंस् तेषां वरान् वरान् ॥
अनेन विद्धो मातङ्गो महान् एकेषुणा हतः ॥
हिरण्यकक्ष्यः संग्रामे दन्ताभ्याम् अगमन् महीम् ॥
अनेन विजिता गावो जिताश् च कुरवो युधि ॥
अस्य शङ्खप्रणादेन कर्णौ मे बधिरीकृतौ ॥
तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा मत्स्यराजः प्रतापवान् ॥
उत्तरं प्रत्युवाचेदम् अभिपन्नो युधिष्ठिरे ॥
प्रसादनं पाण्डवस्य प्राप्तकालं हि रोचये ॥
उत्तरां च प्रयच्छामि पार्थाय यदि ते मतम् ॥
उत्तर उवाच
अर्च्याः पूज्याश् च मान्याश् च प्राप्तकालं च मे मतम् ॥
पूज्यन्तां पूजनार्हाश् च महाभागाश् च पाण्डवाः ॥

yadārjunena te vīrāḥ kathitāḥ pañca pāṇḍavāḥ ||
tadārjunasya vairāṭiḥ kathayām āsa vikramam ||
ayaṃ sa dviṣatāṃ madhye mṛgāṇām iva kesarī ||
acarad rathavṛndeṣu nighnaṃs teṣāṃ varān varān ||
anena viddho mātaṅgo mahān ekeṣuṇā hataḥ ||
hiraṇyakakṣyaḥ saṃgrāme dantābhyām agaman mahīm ||
anena vijitā gāvo jitāś ca kuravo yudhi ||
asya śaṅkhapraṇādena karṇau me badhirīkṛtau ||
tasya tad vacanaṃ śrutvā matsyarājaḥ pratāpavān ||
uttaraṃ pratyuvācedam abhipanno yudhiṣṭhire ||
prasādanaṃ pāṇḍavasya prāptakālaṃ hi rocaye ||
uttarāṃ ca prayacchāmi pārthāya yadi te matam ||
uttara uvāca
arcyāḥ pūjyāś ca mānyāś ca prāptakālaṃ ca me matam ||
pūjyantāṃ pūjanārhāś ca mahābhāgāś ca pāṇḍavāḥ ||
When Arjuna had named the five Pandava heroes, Uttara, son of Virata, began to recount Arjuna's valor: 'He moved among the enemy like a lion among beasts, passing through the ranks of chariots, slaying the best of them. With a single arrow he pierced and killed a huge elephant with a golden girth, which in battle fell to the ground on its tusks. Through him our cows were recovered and the Kurus were defeated in battle. My ears were deafened by the sound of his conch.' Hearing these words, the mighty king of the Matsyas, turning to Uttara and inclining toward Yudhishthira, said: 'I think the time has come to conciliate the Pandava. And if this is your view too, I shall give Uttara to Partha.' Uttara said: 'They are worthy of honor, worship, and respect; I think the time has come. Let these greatly fortunate Pandavas, who deserve homage, be honored.'
