शल्य उवाच
अथैनां रुपिणीं साध्वीम् उपातिष्ठद् उपश्रुतिः ॥
तां वयोरूपसंपन्नां दृष्ट्वा देवीम् उपस्थिताम् ॥
इन्द्राणी संप्रहृष्टा सा संपूज्यैनाम् अपृच्छत ॥
इच्छामि त्वाम् अहं ज्ञातुं का त्वं ब्रूहि वरानने ॥
उपश्रुतिर् उवाच
उपश्रुतिर् अहं देवि तवान्तिकम् उपागता ॥
दर्शनं चैव संप्राप्ता तव सत्येन तोषिता ॥
पतिव्रतासि युक्ता च यमेन नियमेन च ॥
दर्शयिष्यामि ते शक्रं देवं वृत्रनिषूदनम् ॥
क्षिप्रम् अन्वेहि भद्रं ते द्रक्ष्यसे सुरसत्तमम् ॥
शल्य उवाच
ततस् तां प्रस्थितां देवीम् इन्द्राणी सा समन्वगात् ॥
देवारण्यान्य् अतिक्रम्य पर्वतांश् च बहूंस् ततः ॥
हिमवन्तम् अतिक्रम्य उत्तरं पार्श्वम् आगमत् ॥

icchāmi tvām ahaṃ jñātuṃ kā tvaṃ brūhi varānane ||
upaśrutir uvāca
upaśrutir ahaṃ devi tavāntikam upāgatā ||
darśanaṃ caiva saṃprāptā tava satyena toṣitā ||
pativratāsi yuktā ca yamena niyamena ca ||
darśayiṣyāmi te śakraṃ devaṃ vṛtraniṣūdanam ||
kṣipram anvehi bhadraṃ te drakṣyase surasattamam ||
śalya uvāca
tatas tāṃ prasthitāṃ devīm indrāṇī sā samanvagāt ||
devāraṇyāny atikramya parvatāṃś ca bahūṃs tataḥ ||
himavantam atikramya uttaraṃ pārśvam āgamat ||
Shalya said: 'Then the goddess of divination approached this chaste and beautiful woman. And having seen this goddess, young and lovely, standing before her, Indra's queen, rejoicing in her heart, paid her homage and said: "I wish to know who you are, O you of the lovely face." [Upashruti replied:] "Since you are truthful, O noble lady, I have come before you. Since you are devoted to your husband, exercise self-control, and observe religious vows, I shall show you the god Indra, the slayer of Vritra. Follow me quickly — may good fortune attend you! You shall behold this best of the gods."' Shalya said: Then Indrani, the divine queen, followed after her as she set out. She crossed heavenly groves and many mountains; and then, having crossed the Himavat range, she came to its northern side.
