तेजोहरं दृष्टिविषं सुघोरं; मा त्वं पश्येर् नहुषं वै कदा चित् ॥
देवाश् च सर्वे नहुषं भयार्ता; न पश्यन्तो गूढरूपाश् चरन्ति ॥
शल्य उवाच
एवं वदत्य् अङ्गिरसां वरिष्ठे; बृहस्पतौ लोकपालः कुबेरः ॥
वैवस्वतश् चैव यमः पुराणो; देवश् च सोमो वरुणश् चाजगाम ॥
ते वै समागम्य महेन्द्रम् ऊचुर्; दिष्ट्या त्वाष्ट्रो निहतश् चैव वृत्रः ॥
दिष्ट्या च त्वां कुशलिनम् अक्षतं च; पश्यामो वै निहतारिं च शक्र ॥
स तान् यथावत् प्रतिभाष्य शक्रः; संचोदयन् नहुषस्यान्तरेण ॥
राजा देवानां नहुषो घोररूपस्; तत्र साह्यं दीयतां मे भवद्भिः ॥
ते चाब्रुवन् नहुषो घोररूपो; दृष्टीविषस् तस्य बिभीम देव ॥
त्वं चेद् राजन् नहुषं पराजयेस्; तद् वै वयं भागम् अर्हाम शक्र ॥
tejoharaṃ dṛṣṭiviṣaṃ sughoraṃ; mā tvaṃ paśyer nahuṣaṃ vai kadā cit ||
devāś ca sarve nahuṣaṃ bhayārtā; na paśyanto gūḍharūpāś caranti ||

evaṃ vadaty aṅgirasāṃ variṣṭhe; bṛhaspatau lokapālaḥ kuberaḥ ||
vaivasvataś caiva yamaḥ purāṇo; devaś ca somo varuṇaś cājagāma ||
te vai samāgamya mahendram ūcur; diṣṭyā tvāṣṭro nihataś caiva vṛtraḥ ||
diṣṭyā ca tvāṃ kuśalinam akṣataṃ ca; paśyāmo vai nihatāriṃ ca śakra ||
sa tān yathāvat pratibhāṣya śakraḥ; saṃcodayan nahuṣasyāntareṇa ||
rājā devānāṃ nahuṣo ghorarūpas; tatra sāhyaṃ dīyatāṃ me bhavadbhiḥ ||
te cābruvan nahuṣo ghorarūpo; dṛṣṭīviṣas tasya bibhīma deva ||
tvaṃ ced rājan nahuṣaṃ parājayes; tad vai vayaṃ bhāgam arhāma śakra ||
'How fortunate, O Indra, that we see you whole and unharmed, while all your enemies have been slain!' Indra received all these guardians of the worlds and, with a joyful heart, greeted them in the proper manner, so as to ask them about Nahusha. And he said: 'Nahusha of terrible aspect is king of the gods; in this matter, grant me your aid.' They replied: 'Nahusha has a dreadful face; his glance is poison; we fear him, O god. If you overthrow Nahusha, then we shall have a right to our share of the sacrifices, O Indra.' Indra said: 'So be it. You, and the lord of the waters, and Yama, and Kubera shall this day be crowned together with me. With the help of all the gods let us overthrow the enemy Nahusha of the terrible gaze.' Then Agni also said to Indra: 'Give me a share in the sacrificial offerings. I too shall lend you my aid.'
