译文

Sanjaya said: 'O Bharata, Dhrishtadyumna ever summons the Pandavas to war, saying: "Fight, best of the Bharatas. Harbor not the slightest fear. All those rulers of the earth who, in service to the son of Dhritarashtra, become in this fierce clash the target of showers of weapons — indeed, I alone shall meet all these enraged kings, gathered together with their kinsmen, like a whale snatching fish from the water. Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Karna and the son of Drona, Shalya and Suyodhana — all of them I shall withstand, like a shore standing against a surging sea." Having said this to him, the virtuous King Yudhishthira said: "The Panchalas and the Pandavas depend wholly upon your valor and steadfastness. Save us from war. I know, O mighty-armed one, that you firmly uphold the duties of the kshatriya order. You are indeed fully capable of striking down the Kauravas single-handed. When they, eager for battle, stand before us, whatever you, O conqueror of enemies, undertake will surely be for our good. Even those versed in the Sacred Scriptures hold that a hero who, displaying his valor, relies on those who, after defeat, flee the battlefield seeking protection, should be bought at the price of a thousand. You, O bull among men, are brave, mighty, and powerful. Without doubt, you are the deliverer of those seized by fear on the field of battle." And when the righteous Yudhishthira, son of Kunti, had said this, Dhrishtadyumna fearlessly addressed me with these words: "Go, O Suta, without delay, and tell all those who have come to fight for Duryodhana — tell the Kurus of the Pratipa dynasty, together with the Vahlikas, the son of Sharadvata, and Karna and Drona, and the son of Drona, and Jayadratha, and Dussasana, and Vikarna, and King Duryodhana, and Bhishma — do not let yourselves be slain by Arjuna, who is protected by the celestials."'
