译文

And when the Pandavas, seeing all this, sat in silence, without giving way to anger, I cried out in my heart to you, O Govinda, saying: 'Save me, O save me!' Then the illustrious King Dhritarashtra, my father-in-law, said to me: 'Ask for any boon, O princess of the Panchalas. You deserve favors, and even honors, at my hands.' Thus addressed, I said: 'Let the Pandavas be free men, together with their chariots and their weapons.' After that, the Pandavas, O Keshava, were set free, but only to be exiled into the forest. O Janardana, you know all my sorrows. Save me, O lotus-eyed one, together with my husbands and my kinsmen, from this grief. By ties of morality, O Krishna, I am the daughter-in-law of Bhishma and of Dhritarashtra. Despite this, I was nevertheless forcibly made a slave. Shame on the archery of Partha, shame on the might of Bhimasena, since Duryodhana, O Krishna, remains alive even for a moment. If I deserve any favor at your hands, if you feel any compassion for me at all, let your wrath, O Krishna, be turned upon the sons of Dhritarashtra.' Vaishampayana continued: 'Having said this, the beautiful Krishna, with eyes dark and large as lotus petals, bathed in tears and walking like a she-elephant, approached the lotus-eyed Krishna and, taking in her left hand her beautiful locks with curling ends, of a deep blue hue, perfumed with every fragrance, marked with every auspicious sign, and though gathered into a braid, still soft and glistening like a mighty serpent, spoke these words: "O lotus-eyed one, you who long for peace with the enemy, in all your actions you must remember these locks of mine, seized by the rough hands of Duhshasana!"'
